Aim and Relevance
Our Aim
The MA in Development Studies is designed for those planning a career in the field of economic and social development as policy-makers, activists, administrators, developers, researchers or teachers at universities.
The main objective of the Development Studies courses are to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for a career in the field of development, give them a good understanding of the development experiences of different countries and empower them with the analytical and conceptual skills needed to understand the challenges of development.

Practical Relevance
An important question from potential students and applicants is always: "What can I get as additional qualification from this MA Program?" The following aspects may give you an idea:
  • The teaching methods are designed to be as interactive as possible, emphasizing small group work and using relevant and practical case studies.
  • emphasis is placed on independent research
  • Since the 1980s close to 1000 students have completed post-graduate degrees with the ISD, many of whom are now in leading positions in the field of development in South Africa.
